A SLO Weekend Getaway

To say that I'm burnt out feels like an understatement. I didn't realize the extent of my exhaustion until I began suffering from bouts of antihistamine-resistant allergies that would lead to days of swollen eyes, a rudolph-like nose, & cloudy thoughts. To make matters worse, my body blessed me with a beautiful cold sore right in the middle of my upper lip. Amazing. I'm finally in healing / scab mode right now, and am pleasantly surprised that you can't see it in these photos. Anyhoo, my husband and I decided late Thursday afternoon to make a quick weekend getaway to San Luis Obispo, and boom. We booked a motel last minute, drove up Friday night, and crashed in a town that feels like home away from home for me.

After one day of rest here, I'm reminded of how important it is for all of us to rest. I already feel rejuvenated and refreshed, and all I needed was a change of scenery and a day free of responsibilities. With a full time job, a blog to maintain (which I feel like I've been neglecting), and now a part time online certification program, I so easily become overwhelmed and can believe that I don't deserve a day off like today. That along with my own career expectations coupled with my 5 year timeline, I can be incredibly hard on myself, and I know I'm not the only one who does this to themselves. We all need to remember that we're humans; there's a limit to our productivity, efficiency, and self-will to get things done, and that lack of physical/ emotional/ mental rest will DEFINITELY limit us.

I challenge you to dedicate one full day of REST this week. What does that look like? That means no chores, work, errands, responsibilities, etc. NADA. That means spending your entire day doing what you love, doing what relaxes you, investing your time in something that brings you joy and self-fulfillment. Eat out for dinner. Spend time with loved ones, BFFs, or with your significant other, away from electronics and social media. Choose a day that would fit your schedule. Trust me, it'll do wonders for you the rest of the week.

AND I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT.
